Leírás
Százhalombatta-Földvár is one of the most investigated sites among the Hungarian Middle Bronze Age tells, along the Danube. This volume provides a detailed account of the last phase in the life of the tell. It focuses on materials, objects, and practices and aims to bring a bottom-up approach to the challenge of telling the life story of the tell – letting its voice be heard. What emerges is insights into a gradual losing-up of the structures and routines that constituted the tell-way of life and held its community together. There are three components to this account. The first is the chapters providing the context. To this belongs the discussion of the research tradition of tell excavations in the Carpathian Basin, their distinct aims and methods and the underlying shared challenges. The characterisation of Százhalombatta-Földvár as a place is also part of this contextualisation as is also the presentation of the methods used in its excavation and analysis. The second component is the account of the archaeology, including details of the matrix and the finds from each of the six levels that the phase is divided into. These are complemented by specialist reports. It is these details that provide the grounding for our story of memory and abandonment. The third and final part explores the facets of that story further through questions about how people lived on the tell – what were their concerns and how did they practice the art of living within the special parameter of the tell and its surroundings?
